Blame for the inspiration. She requested of me a picture of Naruto and Gaara with the theme "gardening" (which I have obviously decided to interpret boringly literally), and I think she was also the one who told me that the newest databook says Gaara's hobby is growing cacti.Since Naruto has always been a closet horticulturist, this must be what happened.
(...And since I coloured that watering can orange, I guess Gaara got that from Naruto as well, then.)
As Ednama pointed out, that Naruto likes cultivating plants is (or was? he's not that unpopular anymore) probably to compensate for the lack of close humans to take care of, because he has a need to take care of something. I suppose then Gaara would be doing a bit of the same, as a result of his little self-cultivation. Gaining interest in preserving life instead of destroying it, and so on.
I find it cute he's practicing that stuff with cacti.
Temari and Kankuro are just as confused as you are.

Actually, in one of the data books, their creator states that Gaara's hobby IS cultivating cacti; it's very similer to Naruto's gardening and is ment to be yet another similerity between the to demon hosts. So your freind was absolutely right.

I too figured that he must've gotten that idea from Naruto.
I have this little scene in my head of Gaara paying Naruto a visit after the Sasuke retrieval business and Naruto somehow ending up giving him that cactus as a present

Yes! Gaara's first cactus and it's a present from Naruto! And then he gives Naruto a new one to replace it the next time they see each other, and Naruto says it's okay, he doesn't have to because it was a gift, but Gaara insists, and then the next time they see each other in one of their villages Naruto brings Gaara a new cactus as a present, and before they know it they have a habit of exchanging potted plants.

I love that you draw Temari and Kankuro too, I love to see the three siblings together but often the people only draw Gaara and forget the other two.
Somehow Narutos face at the first panel is scary XD but it´s fitting for him haha

I really, really love your style. Naruto's face is priceless, I could stare for hours at his teeth and the way his cheeks from such a cute smile. And Gaara with this mimics and poses is just making my day, I swear I wish I could curve clothes like youXD ReallyXD

I LOVE Naruto's face. He has such a... Naruto face! Not just the physical likeness, but that's a face that screams *lill' prankster* or *here comes trouble*. That's a real troublemaker expression, far better than Kishimoto's goofy grin. It's something in his eyes, or maybe his teeth. Love the way you draw the teeth: so unamerican! slightly uneven, with a discreet front gap and proturing...er... canine? (pointy fang)

And Gaara looks slightly awkward, like we all are in a home we've never set foot in (first reflex: to look at the shelves). I see that you gave him back the piercings.
The second panel prooves that you don't necessarily have to do chibis to manage 'cute'. You can do it with bags, skinny and a pensive/forlorn look. And a cactus in danger of drowning, I might add.
The sand looks marvelously granule-y.
Temari and Kankuro may be confused, we are HAPPY!

I like Naruto's Naruto face, too. The way you described it, yeah, that's how I see and try to draw him. I have to start over whenever he turns out too bishonen.
I draw Gaara's "piercings" whenever I happen to draw him with big enough earlobes. They're stick-on earrings made of sand and chakra anyway (so I insist), so they can appear and disappear randomly.
The text on the ramen cup says ramen is fuckin' osm (short for awesome).
