It probably was supposed to, if I remember correctly the swatstika was kinda like the equivalent to the four leaf clover in some religions or countries (bad memory is bad) before it came to represent what it is most famous for. (note that all of this may be wrong, basically the disign is really old

Actually it was a buddist symbol for a thousand years before the nazis used it for their flag. It is a symbol for 'good fortune', at least that's what I think it means, it's been a while since I learned about that.
