Description model: you'll never know

this shot was taken 4 years ago. my first serious attempt at working with real blood. we used like 200 ml of the model's blood that day. surprisingly, it was enough to create a real bloody mess.

My only problem with this is that there is an off-balance in the lighting, as the bottom of the photograph draws away from the center. I would suggest adding a vignette border. Also if you could enhance the color just a bit it may compliment the contrast of light. Other than that this is a very solid piece, and a nice deviation (pardon the pun) from your other more figure oriented photos. I love your work with Koshka, but the more you photograph her the more it seems she is wasting away. You may want to check into that. Cheers!

thanks for the critique!

perhaps you're right about lighting & colors but i don't see it this way. a lot of work was put into this image but i wanted it to look a little raw, you know. i love to use vignetting to guide viewer's attention but for some reason not here. this image is not for everyone, and i don't expect many people to like it. but anyway, i think i'll tweak it a little bit more.

as for the Koshka, i'm not sure i understand what 'wasting away' means. if it's some artistic degradation you're talking about, then, again, maybe so, but i don't see how it can be seen knowing we publish works randomly from different shoots made throughout the year and the reasons for every shot are different as well. the problem is we live 900 km apart from each other so we actually can't work too often together.

What I mean about Koshka is that she seems to be getting thinner and thinner.

oh. i'd never guess that could be a problem, we both enjoy aesthetics of slim body, visible ribcage, etc. then again, i don't think she had changed a lot, it's just an art.

I guess what I'm seeing is more angles in places I didn't see them before. A woman must have some flesh or else she is a little boy.

Out of curiosity, was the blood abstracted with a syringe or some other means?

If I could find a model willing to use their own blood.. it would be quite awesome...

yes, the blood was taken from a median cubital vein using a syringe (a little bit more complicated in my case).
and for me finding the willing model was never a problem, learning and mastering the procedure was a bit of challenge though. i'd never try something like that without a tutor and that's where i got lucky.

Very interesting...
well it's apparent you have found some really amazing models to work with (not to mention they're very dedicated).
Koshka is my favorite.
