Talia was the first born of triplets, and so became the heir to Joto’s throne after her younger brother was stillborn. Although close to her sisters from birth, Talia could be rather possessive and excessively protective of them, as well as a bit of a bully when it suited her.
Easily the most headstrong and confident of Joto’s daughters, it was assumed she had marvellous potential to rule the Kingdom after Joto’s passing. She displayed leadership qualities and strategic decision-making skills from a young age.
Talia began to harden as she aged. She had frequent lessons, time away from her sisters, and trained for great responsibility - most of which was against her will. She was betrothed to a lion her father chose for her - Haraka - and expected to bear cubs to continue the family legacy. Talia took this to mean that she could have complete power over her subjects (if her father could make life decisions for her, the Pride’s Future Queen, then she could surely dictate how the rest of the pride would live). She took it upon herself to find mates for her sisters, and the rest of the pride, regardless of their feelings. This was met with outrage and rebellion, with her sisters declaring they would decide for themselves how to live their lives.
Joto would remind Talia that everyone ultimately had a choice - that was the entire reason he founded the Pride Lands to begin with. Although Haraka was kind, smart and no doubt a good match for her, Talia found her father to be hypocritical. His reasoning that a Queen’s mate must be carefully selected to benefit the Pride Lands did not wash with her - why did her father think she was not capable of making the correct decision for herself?
Talia refused to have cubs with Haraka out of sheer rebellion. However, she decided to stay by Haraka’s side, acknowledging that his strength would be valuable for protection against outsiders.
Talia’s greatest strength was her mind. She was easily able to manipulate those around her for what she believed was the greater good of the Pride Lands. She soon built up an army of male lions, and decided to invade surrounding territories without her father’s knowledge. Talia claimed to do this to expand their empire and spread the word of Joto’s Law - she wanted to end the abuse of lionesses and cubs against aggressive rogue males, and protect prides. This would, however come at a cost - the prides she ‘saved’ would have to live under Pride Lands law, and willingly trade members for betrothals and breeding in the future.
Joto remained unconvinced that Talia was doing this for the benefit of her subjects. He saw it as nothing more than a power play; a strategic game of control and power that Talia became addicted to - she did not care for those she ‘saved’ any more than the rogue males she killed did.
Talia’s relationship with her family ultimately suffered, and Joto stripped away her power - she would never become the Queen she had trained so hard to be. Instead, the crown would go to her sister’s first born son, Mohatu - especially since, years later, Talia still had not delivered cubs of her own.
Many years later, after her parents’ passing, and during Mohatu’s reign, Talia and her army would attempt to take back the Pride Lands. The first Lion Guard was formed by Mohatu’s brother Askari, to combat Talia’s thirst for power.
Ultimately, with the persuasion of Haraka, Talia backed down after making a devastating realisation - her army had been planning to betray her all along, wanting the Pride Lands for themselves and exert their own power. She and her family would be slaughtered. Talia then joined her family and helped destroy her army.
She eventually realised how empty and lonely her life had been, and that she had selfishly and immaturely acted mostly out of anger toward her father. She felt bitter and regretful at letting her parents die without making amends, and vowed never to return to the Pride Lands. Her sisters were not sorry to see her go - Talia had caused too much damage by that point.
Talia would later go on to have a child with Haraka, whom she genuinely grew to love over time. It is unknown for now who her child was.

The details of Talia’s story have not fully been worked out in my mind yet. I know it could be stronger, but I’ll refine it all when I get chance to work on it some more.
