As far as I know, they were trying to do things very differently in season 5, older protagonists, different animation style, and of course the noticeable lack of goggles. I dunno why exactly they did that but I still enjoyed it, and Masaru is kind of my favorite leader XD

I love the legendary leaders in Digimon.
For rabid fans who hate Masaru to death, I think it is not a suitable place for you to write your burning hatred about him since he does not wear goggle. He is a street fighter.
