:: graphite, photoshop, CG-textures.com ::One of my illustration class assignments was to design a snowboard. I made three designs total, all were Hawaiian- and tropical-themed imagery. I liked the idea of making a surfer want to feel at home on the slopes.
I settled for the orange version of the snowboard, but the koifish also went through stages of red and green.

For this project, it was a school assignment, so I was given a print-out template on 8.5x11 paper of a snowboard. I used graphite only on the paper, then scanned it and began painting in photoshop using a Wacom tablet. Then, for some of the textures, I went into CGtextures.com and pulled some marbled paper and applied them using both the Multiply layer feature and the Overlay layer feature. I actually wound up doing two versions of two color schemes because I couldn't settle between the gold-orange koi and a deep red koi.

Haha yes, bright fish on a snowboard. I think orange sounds like the best color for the fish, of the versions you mentioned, for the contrast with the blue background, and you could even make the orange more saturated. Could be too much to saturate it more, but on the other hand, it's a tropical fish snowboard, so why not?
