It is nearly impossible to get Joan to do what you want her to do--unless it's in her interests, of course. She comes off as rude, crude, and generally uneducated to new people, and that often puts her in a negative light. Not that she cares, of course, believing that people have a right to their own opinion. She won't judge you, as long as you don't judge her. Not incredibly intelligent (except when it comes to mechanics--she built her own motorcycle), she makes up for her lack of knowledge in academics and science with her stubbornness, determined to tackle any problem that gets in her way and succeed, sort of an 'act now--think it over later' attitude. Overall, however, she's relatively friendly, but she doesn't like being looked down upon. She's extremely competitive and is rather scrappy, but her entire attitude is just to get attention. She's also rather lonely, and is prone to violent mood swings due to it, with a temper, and she has a nasty habit of holding grudges if you don't apologize for offending her.

History
The daughter of a well off scientist in Kanto and his wife, Joan grew up trying to meet the standards of her father. Unfortunately, with average intelligence, she did not meet his goals, and at age ten she quit school and became a Pokemon Trainer. Now, eleven years later, she's traveled all the regions, hoping from one bike gang to the next, with her small team of Pokemon, and has wound up Oneirus Labs to prove to her father that she is intelligent, and can work for the scientific community.

Joan refers to her team as "The Three R's". To quote her: "I don't need reading, 'riting, and 'rythmetic. I've got Rex, Raf, and Rik." They're her boys, her little gang, and they're all extremely loyal to one another, and to their trainer. You mess with one of them, you mess with all of them.

Joan's first Pokemon, who's sort of a goofball. He bumps into Joan on a regular basis, just to annoy her, and she'll often try to tackle him in response. He's her constant companion, floating over her shoulder, doing his best to be intimidating, and he's constantly grinning. When he's not, it's time to be concerned, because you've probably managed to make him mad. He's like his trainer, charging in before really thinking things through.

Raf | Torkoal | Male | White Smoke | Calm
The oldest member of the team, and often the voice of reason. Often in favor of watching the battles instead of participating, he'd rather sit next to Joan, or let her sit on him. He's Joan's last resort--if she feels like she's losing, that's when she brings Raf into the fight. He's the strongest member on the team, defense wise, and can take quite a few hits before he's down.

Rik | Scrafty | Male | Moxie | Naughty
The wild child of the team, and Joan's usual partner in crime. Sassy, misbehaved, and generally a nuisance, he does whatever he wants--unless Joan disproves. Then he grovels at her feet to get back on her good side. Despite what it may appear like, with them fighting with one another almost constantly, the two are very close. They often smash each other's foreheads together as reassurance, and when the going gets tough, Rik gets going.

Extra
+ Joan built her own motorcycle, and treasures it greatly. If something bad happens to it, expect her to be in an awful mood until it's fixed up. She takes pride in the fact that she was smart enough to build one all on her own.
+ The Emboar symbol on the back of her jacket was from the most recent biker gang she was apart of in Unova.
+ The tattoo on her arm is the same symbol as one you find on a Koffing--she did that in honor of Rex, her best friend.
