Description This is a mockup made to demonstrate what exactly Dropping Danger, the game being developed by Level On-e, will look like with the final, polished graphics and resolution. By downloading the beta version, you can check what it is looking like right now:

levelon-e.com/droppingdanger

The current tileset is for the first levels of the game, which consists of caverns and rocks.
To the left side, you can see how many lives Whiskers, the white cat, has. To the right, you can see a vertical progression bar. Whiskers' head marks at which height on the level he is, the blue shows the position of the rising water, and the the green wool ball shows at which height the player can find a checkpoint (depending on the level's height, there might be more checkpoints than one).

Besides the alpha used on the transparent water and the shadow behind Whiskers present on this image, the game is being drawn completelly on MS Paint, having no special effects beyond the boundaries of the good old Pixel Art (which can be seen in some revealed sprites for Whiskers on my gallery).

The Cat should always have nine lives, instead of seven. You know... because its a cat.

Just adding to my previous answer: *ONE OF The inspirations is of course, Metroid series. There are more games that create an incredible "subterranean" feel that have inspired me, like Sub-Terrania, Final Fantasy, Castlevania and Gradius.

In fact, it was my top priority to make the tiles unique enough for the "tiling" to not be obvious. The inspiration, is of course, Metroid series. But the graphics are in no way ripped nor copied, mind you. The game, also, has nothing to do with the Metroid games.

I'll be taking it as a compliment !

I love me some Metroid.

I'm always looking for people who might make some tilesets for my metroid hack(s).
