Description I know most hardcore fans love the concept of Sub-Zero and Sareena intermingling and bearing some offpsring so I created this guy.

Appearance: Like his succubus mommy, he has a white streak in the middle of his black hair along with his back hair being tied in a paintbrush-like tail (don't remember what the name of the hairstyle is). He also has a case of heterochromia, inheriting one blue eye from his dad and one red eye from his demon heritage. The scar he has along his face was inherited from a fight which I'll later talk about. He does inherit his cryomancer powers from Sub-Zero, but the color of the ice instead is black instead of blue, possibly as a result of some demon genes intermingling with his Cryomancer heritage. The main power I want to focus on is his Yaoguai (Chinese for "demon") Mode. Most of the time he is clear-headed, calm, and usually rational, but during scenarios of seeing a loved one in danger, being on the brink of death or staying in the Netherrealm for an extended period of time, he transforms into a hideous red horned Netherdemon gone berserk. His horns are inspired by a living antelope called the tahr while the rest of the face I could say was mostly inspired by DC's Trigon. However, his black demon arm can be used outside of his demon stage and is frequently used in his battles where it can shapeshift into a blade or grow really large to disembowl his enemies personally. His demon mode also grants him supernatural strength and speed, but at the cost of his rationale, making him a reckless monster of rage.

Costume: This was the hardest design I came up with. He doesn't have the title Sub-Zero just yet, but I wanted to balance out his father's legacy and the son himself as a character in the costume. You can see I mixed in Deception elements from his father like the loincloth, black armbands and his furry neck collar along with unused MKX Sub-Zero concept art elements such as his boots, hood, and his shoulder padding. When he's not using his demon arms, they are covered in blue armguards and black fingerless gloves. He wears a black undershirt covered by his Lin Kuei blue outfit which has the Chinese characters Bing Yaoguai translating to "ice demon" appropriate to his theme. The necklace surrounding his neck has a tooth of a succubus demon he killed in the Netherrealm. His belt is brown and engraved with the Lin Kuei emblem. I was going to make the pants black, but I thought they would obscure his mother's name that he embroided in tribute to her so I gave him blue pants with red pockets to balance his ice demon theme. Finally, I gave the future Sub-Zero a unique mask from his precedessors by making it red with protruding fang-like projections on the upper corners.

Story: As you guessed it, he is the son of Sub-Zero and Sareena, the latter who recently escaped the Netherrealm and both fell in love as it should have gone in the original canon. So a few years, it turns out his uncle Noob Saibot is reportedly alive and emerges to kidnap our very young protagonist and takes him into the Netherrealm to lure his brother Kuai Liang in order to kill him. Plus the wraith is mostly invested in the boy's demon powers that he tries to exploit to his own advantage by keeping him in the Netherrealm for an extended period of time. The boy resists and Noob cruelly slashes his face open, giving him his trademark scar. Sub-Zero arrives and battles it out with his brother, but loses at the end. Noob makes the stupid mistake of cruelly ordering his nephew to stare at the scene as he's about to kill Kuai Liang and replace him as the boy's father. Suddenly, the child enters his Yaoguai form for the first time and severely wounds Noob Saibot who retreats and would have killed his father if it weren't for Sareena's intervention, calming her son as the threat passed. From that point, the teenage hybrid tried obsessively to supress his demon form as he feared it would hurt other people and paint him as an outcast. During his childhood, he made friends with a young cryomancer named Frost and both begun a romantic relationship. Little did he know that Frost was trying to assassinate his own father and steal the Dragon Medallion for herself and when he found out and confronted her about it during a mission, Frost stabbed the teenager through the chest with an icicle and left him to die alone. Surprisingly due to his demon physiology, he survived the blow and returned to the Lin Kuei Temple where his father had already dealt with the arrogant bitch, forcing her to retreat into obscurity, vowing vengeance on the Lin Kuei. The Cryomancer/demon hybrid felt like a failure for not using his Yaoguai form to stop Frost and ran away from the Temple in shame despite his father and mother being alive. In the forest, he ran into Hanzo Hasashi, the former "Scorpion" who was on his way late to the battle to aid Sub-Zero. After hearing our protagonist's conflict of being torn between his human and demon half, Scorpion offered a chance for him to harness his demon powers and rage at ease at the Shirai Ryu Temple. So with his father's permission, the ice demon went on a spiritual retreat to Hanzo's estate, meeting a young Takeda Takahashi during his stay. Slowly, they both grew attached to one another and Takeda began viewing his icy counterpart as an older brother. Throughout the years, the young Lin Kuei warrior matured and became at the peak of his physical and mental conditioning so he became a Kevin Conroy Batman archetype, a highly intellectual kombatant. He would later leave Hanzo and return back to his father and the Lin Kuei to continue the clan's work, but Kuai Liang saw greater things in his son's future as he was accompanied by a Yazata. She persuades the Lin Kuei demon hybrid to help form a team of young interrealm fighters in order to be trained in being future defenders. She sends him off to be mentored and trained further under the Edenian Protector God Taven who ironically is of halfblood so he sympathizes with our hero. Under the demigod's instructions, the ice demon warrior travels across Earthrealm to recruit two more potential candidates, Cassandra Cage and his old Shirai Ryu friend Takeda. Their first mission together as a team under their mentor Taven was to respond to a string of vigliante activity going on in Hong Kong. The rumors report of an assassin of both Earthrealm and Edenian descent...

If I was going to give him a voice, I'd probably go for Matt Lanter who voiced Anakin Skywalker in the Clone Wars. I think it fits his personality.

Digging the white streak of hair. Though this may be just me and my obsession with the Devil May Cry series, but I always imagined him sporting the long Nero/Dante nappy hairstyle, much like this . His powers would be a literal cross between his mother and father's, also like that image, demonic ice abilities. This'll hopefully help him distinguish from his father a bit. The characters translating to ice demon along with the heterochromic eyes are also a really awesome touch, especially the tooth necklace. I also love how his story plays out. Meeting Uncle Bi-Han, having the brief romantic relationship with Frost, and the Takeda friendship, were what I also had in mind, and I think it helps set up a potential rivalry. I even had thoughts of making Takeda the next-gen Scorpion, but decided to drop that idea since Hanzo was always Scorpion throughout every game.

Glad you approve of it! You noticed in the story I connected Jian's story to Atalanta/Zenobia/Athena current predicament in Hong Kong?
