Description "This particular canned meat tends to open you up instead."

- Description of a Death Knight from the Quake instruction manual.
(Said phrase is intended to complement the blurb for the regular Knight
which reads, "Canned meat. Open 'er up and see if it's still fresh.")

Elite, armored warriors found in id Software's 1996 Quake personal computer video game (said title was also later ported to the Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Macintosh, and other formats). They were also re-skinned in Activision/Rogue Entertainment's 1997 Quake: Dissolution of Eternity PC mission pack to create the Minotaur Statue enemies (which behave exactly like a Death Knight when they come to life).

When a standard Knight performs well in the service of the Hell Mother, Shub-Niggurath, it is promoted--in a profane ritual--to the prestigious rank of Death Knight. In addition to a superior suit of armor, each Death Knight inductee is issued a magic blade. This enchanted long sword can be used to fling a row of fireballs though the air simply by swiping the weapon in the direction of the intended target. This scorching projectile attack, coupled with increased strength and durability, makes the Death Knight one of the most dangerous, and effective, creatures in Quake's dark legions.

Not gonna lie...

if i had poseable quake 1 action figures - i'd play with them despite being "too old" for it.

Resaurus, a toy company that is no longer in business, had plans to make Quake 1 figures (Shambler, Death Knight, Fiend, and a Marine if I remember right), but they were never produced. You can find photos of the prototypes online if you look around. They did make some excellent Quake 2 figures though, which I own.
