It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Yoshimitsu Banno's passing.

He was best known as the director of the 1971 film "Godzilla Vs. Hedorah" and executive producer on Legendary Picture's Godzilla in 2014. He also worked as Assistant Director for films by the legendary Akira Kurosawa, one of the world's best film makers.

Sadly, he never got to fully realize his dream of doing a new Godzilla and Hedorah film, a project he was extremely passionate about. However, thanks to his efforts to realize this, he became an instrumental part of the creation of Legendary Picture's MonsterVerse, which now has "Kong: Skull Island" as it's latest entry and will be followed by "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" and much anticipated "Godzilla Vs. Kong".

A few years ago, I had the honor of being able to have a few conversations with him over a series of emails. In these discussions, he recommended I check out Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece "Seven Samurai" and the literary classic "The Brother's Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. We also talked about art and film, music, religion and man needs for God, and other things. He even shared a script and some promotional materials for projects he had in mind that he intended to show to potential investors.

Even though I didn't get to meet him in person and befriend him on a more personal level, our conversations were inspiring and I am left with a deep feeling of gratitude for his time, kindness, and wisdom. He was a good man, who had a deep love for art, humanity, and the Earth and all of Nature.

I wish to thank him for his wisdom and kindness, as well as his contributions to the world of film and art. I also send my heart felt prayers to his family and friends, as well as my fellow fans of his work.

Rest in Peace Mr. Banno, may you enjoy the splendor of God's creation in Heaven and look on your life with joy.
