Description Depiction of typical US Infantryman, 5th Infantry Division, 1917-1918. Northern France.

He wears a darker wool M1912 version of uniform, now with M1918 Trench Boots hobnailed for traction in mud, M1917 Helmet to protect their brains from shrapnel and debris, Small Box Respirator (SBR) Gas mask, M1917 Rifle in 30.06.

The general consensus here in the US either downplay our involvement in WWI as something we should not have been involved with in the first place, or just a small victory that was quickly overshadowed by our victories in WWII. Perhaps these opinions hold some truth to them, but the American operations in WWI were some the most costly in terms of casualties for American soldiers in any of our foreign conflicts (116,000 approximately in 18 months). Although these are small compared to French and German figures.

A very nice picture - he looks ready, and the cut of the uniform is very exact. And, wow, I haven't heard this version of "Over There" before. It's very nice to hear a modern recording of it. It's quite grandiose!
