The ichthyoturtle: a speculative, secondarily-terrestrial, descendant of ichthyosaurs that has evolved to inhabit freshwater lagoons.
Although the ichthyoturtle has retained some of its ancestors' streamlined body shape, its fins have adapted to better maneuver across the shallow waters and muddy beaches of its freshwater habitat. The thick, leathery carapace covering its back not only provides protection from potential predators but also aids in camouflage.
The ichthyoturtle spends most of its time suspended bottoms-up underwater, sifting through muddy sediment in search of mollusks and crustaceans.
