This is beautiful and sad. The caldera is something borne of something completely different, it is a foil of it's origins. Water and birth (the flowers and plants) from fire and death (volcano). Although the outcome would be considered by many to be positive, it looks to me like the figure is representing the shame of not "staying true to ones roots" as it were. She is ashamed of having come so far from where she started. Instead of heat and destruction, there is water and new life.

There are real birds, and then there is what looks to be a figure of a bird. Perhaps this figure is also reflecting what the female might represent. Their origins are so close, so visible, but they can never go back or be those other things.

She stands on rock as if a punishing herself, not allowing the joy of the soft green grass so nearby.

This feels very feminine, from the woman figure to the caldera representing a sort of womb.
