Description Recently I realized by reading the Archie Comic over again, that the comic is not QUITE as bad as I've been making it out to be. That's probably due to me focusing on the negative aspects of the comic, because, yes they are STILL there, and are a problem. But the problem with me has been that in stating my opinions on the negative, I've only focused on the negative.

So I'm going to start trying to think positively, and that means maybe thinking more about the solutions to things I have a problem with.

What has also occurred is my being enlightened recently by another user ~LaviArray . He recently did an analysis on the character on concluded what I have not been able to: the reason why there is such disarray over Sally's character. Which then helped to make this stamp. :thumb388643484:

It's not necessarily that she is a mary sue, although she CAN been seen as one for the way she's portrayed in story. It's more the way she is sued in the story that gives her the same feeling.

After all, Sally has always been used as the voice of reason, which would be fine if she was still balanced between that and having a believable personality. Believable as in she isn't the voice of reason because everything she says is right, but because she was able to work through the problem and come up with the solution.

And I think that is why there's been problems with how she's portrayed.
As pointed out, the way that Sally is used is always as the solution to the problem in the issue. Such as the issue between Elias and General Prowler. I think that it's moments similar to this that take away from her accomplishments, because it sets her up as being the answer to all.

Using her as less the voice of reason, but more as a simple character who gets in her punches every once in while. I think they should have her fail more often and struggle in the "responsible one" identity, it would help her to grow in personality.

I think this was something that kinda ruined her SatAm counterpart. I liked how in the show and early media they seemed to have her contrast Sonic, but seemingly to an equal extreme, being meticulous, fussy and dithering over even logical risks (not to mention having a similar bull headedness about it). I liked this idea in concept, two opposites that needed the other to balance them out and compromise.

However the problem was that most of the time, the chemistry was one sided and Sally was usually designated to the Straight Man of the situation with Sonic's approach always being made out to be 'reckless' and 'wrong'. Eventually they just cut the formalities and simplified Sally to being the competent 'always right' character and even when she did screw up it was rarely from her established flaws and more her having a borderline OOC moment, only further implying how unnatural it is for her to act flawed.

I do kinda wish they'd go back to the adorably finicky little prude she was originally and played with it a bit more, making her more Sonic's equal than a generic 'better half' that demeans his key personality.

Although I've grown to be fond of Sally over the past year and a half since joining DA, I think you're right here. She's not one of my favourite characters currently, but I feel if she was used less as the "voice of reason" as you say, that could make her more realistic and more...relatable, I guess? If she was struggling in her role, I'd probably like her a whole lot more.

I do still support the redesign though, and I feel after her roboticisation is over, its the perfect time to develop her character. Surely after being through that you can't come out completely untainted. I'd imagine she'd have some emotional scars and so on.
