Realistic and horrific! Bound to traumatise more than a few kids... True that witch burnings were relatively rare in the period represented, but they burned plenty of heretics.Β

Well spoken sir.Β Reading "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine, he makes it very clear that Europe had failed in its oppressive dogma and insistence on an official state run church.Β While no fan of religion, Paine makes the argument that it was as if Providence had created North America as a refuge for those fleeing the oppression of Europe.Β

Man I wish I had a time machine and a machine gun so I could rescue these people and turn everyone else to mush.

Europeans were brutal, especially back then.
This is one of the reasons why I'm really that notΒ fond of my lineage. A lot of people like to brag about being white or European. But there's nothing to brag about.
You know the thing about pale skin? It makes the color of blood stand out more, especially when stained upon the hands. And I'll bet that these people had a lot of blood on their hands.

Take a glance at any history book and you should know every civilization has been brutal throughout all ages and nationalities, even today. All people have persecuted and been persecuted themselves, including white people. Slavery; torture; selfish war; rape; inhumane colonization; black; white; pacific; asian; who hasnβt done it in buckets. All races are equal, and that includes brutality. If you want to be ashamed, just be ashamed of being human. But people from all ethnicities have also done incredible and brave things to fight those injustices, including europeans. Take pride in that too. πΒ

You're right.
And while I did say I wasn't too fond of lineage, that doesn't mean I'm ashamed of who I am today. Nobody should be defined by the past. Society can only strive as long as people are willing to see the faults, and then improve it for future generations.
So yeah, you've made a wise statement. Thumbs up to you.

Where did the Magna Carta come from? Also, for every person convicted of witchcraft or heresy, hundreds of other were acquitted. Donβt fall into the Jack Chick view of history, lunatics who claim the inquisition killed as many as 95 million people!
Furthermore, is this a Cather? They ritually murdered their babies and their sick, forbade converts from having children and aborted all their babies. They spread the lie that matter and material existence is evil and would have led all Europeans into self-extinction.
In an age before the theory of Asylum containment for the Insane existed (and an organization to fund it), just HOW were ordinary men supposed to prevent their spread, given their effective charisma?

And yes Artist, not alot of witches in the 13th century. But some where burnt for heresy, the despair on the victims face is horrible to see. You really captured the scene..
