Banzai explains that he and Shenzi dug tunnels pretty much everywhere they could, and then he says what we all were thinking by comparing the hyenas to meerkats. I will explain on the next page why they can't just tunnel out of the Elephant Graveyard to escape.

I actually looked at a panel from "Calvin & Hobbes" to help me figure out how to draw Banzai shaking the dirt off of his fur in Panel 2.

As for the ostrich, I just made it a male to avoid continuity issues with the ones we see in the movies and the show. I'm assuming Disney knows that female ostriches aren't black and white in real life and just prefers the look of black and white feathers, but they have a long history of misrepresenting that in their animated works. Unless maybe those ostrich ballerinas in Fantasia were actually a lot more progressive than I would have expected from a 1940 film.

UPDATE - I made the big, arcing motion line in Panel 3 black instead of gray and adjusted the length because I felt like it drew too much attention away from the actual dirt clod landing on Banzai's head.
