Description The Tatzelwurm is a cryptid reported from the Alps in Austria, Switzerland, Germany and perhaps other countries. I decided to make a character based on this legendary creature. So here he is: Conrad the Tatzelwurm. He lives in the Alpine region of Germany.

Here is a fictional biological description of the kind of Tatzelwurm that Conrad is:

Tatzelwurms represent a group of reptiles belonging to the order Squamata (the order which also contains snakes and lizards). Although the Tatzelwurm is related to snakes and lizards, it belongs in its own distinct suborder.

At 6 feet in length, Conrad is rather sizeable for a reptile. Conrad is a shade of slate gray on his back with a gray-white underbelly. His scales are smooth and fine, giving him a texture like that of a snake. Dorsal spines run along his back, similar to that of an iguana. His ears are internal, but a pair of ear-like crests adorn his head which gives him the likeness of a cat.

Like the green tree skink, Conrad's blood is green. This renders his tongue, muscles, and other tissues bright green as well. This is due to an accumulation of a bile pigment, biliverdin, in his blood, just as in the skink.

Similar to a snake, Conrad possesses a Jacobson's organ in the roof of his mouth which allows him to "taste" chemicals in the air. This is useful when hunting prey. Also useful when hunting prey is a brownish chemical that he can spray from his mouth. The chemical has two primary components. One is a neurotoxin that works to paralyze nerves and can be absorbed into the body through the eyes, nasal lining or cuts. The other is an irritant which burns the eyes and nose of a prey item. In this respect it is like pepper spray. He can also use it to distract predators while he escapes.

In order to survive the harsh winters, Conrad is able to withstand having most of his body frozen. This is similar to that of the wood frog, which uses antifreeze chemicals for the same purpose.

Conrad is a carnivore and prefers to hunt small game such as hares and birds. If presented with the opportunity, he may also try to take down a young lamb or pig. However, he fears humans and prefers to stay well away from houses and villages.

Great rendition. I`ve heard about this creature too, and I think it could be true...after all in this wacko world we are living, few things are unreal.
