I should think your country has a lot of similar landscape and a lot more majestic places. Maybe not stone circles and hut circles though - and these do lend atmosphere. I visited Toronto a LONG time ago and have cousins nearby. Thanks for the interest, enjoy art,
Marcus (aka krystalvoyager)

Now I understand why Conan Doyle set The Hound of the Baskervilles story on Dartmoor...
Amazing mood, wonderful view... but I prefer not to travel on foot through this wildernesses at the sunset.

Thankyou for the kind comment. Once got stuck there after dark stumbling through a freshly cut pine forest. (A bit like the battlefields of WW1!) We got back on the road and someone mentioned "American Werewolf in London" NOT a good idea at the time!

absolutely beautiful! the purple adds just the right touch of warmth and mystique, I adore the stormy section in the far left, and the fact that the whole piece seems to have a consistent brushwork that keeps each colour flowing into each other! Also, those bright red patches are subtle but striking! And the light it perfect! What medium is this?

Hi, this is artist's acrylics over a medium grey primer / undercoat on board. I use a lot of clear acrylic medium to keep the working time "open" for longer which means I can blend layers more than with straight acrylic's usual quick drying time. You can also use coloured glaze to adjust dry layers and eventually finish with the glaze clear as a final varnish. I use satin finish. Thanks for the comments.

you're most welcome! I've done a bit of acrylic work as well, I know how much of a difference a drying retarder makes, especially to the flow/consistency of paint! Keep up the stunning work!

Hi,
hope you are having a great festive season! It's a bit difficult to get my head around time zones - let alone seasonal polarities. So we're cold and you aren't probably sums it up.
Anyway, picking up on the acrylic thing - I thought I'd let you in on a "trade secret" -- I found retarder a pain as I had used it to blend a sky and then continued with straight mixes and forgot where i'd used it. It picked up as a skin later and I messed up the sky section I had wanted smooth.
I now use "Quick dry satin interior varnish" (Acrylic based) from the diy store as my dipping medium while I work, for translucent glazing and as a final varnish for evening out the semi reflective surface and protecting the final work. It's a much cheaper product too and has uv stabilisers to protect colours in strong light.
Hope this is useful,
Have a happy new year,
Marcus.

oh wow, although I would have thought that a varnish would make a texture mark or affect subsequent layers? I'll have a try at it nonetheless, thanks for sharing! I always find it so interesting to hear how other artists go about their work, some are really intricate, others very basic! As for temperatures, Australia has actually been quite cold lately... a week before xmas, we had hail, and after that it went straight back into the 30 degrees (which is considerably hot) and then today it was cold and windy, but new years will be 44... it's very unpredictable!
thanks again for the advice!
-Deanna.
