Thank you! I had to do manual focus because it was getting dark out, so it took me a couple of times!

wonderful colors and tones. very warm and inviting. My only question is, when you took this photo, what role were you wanting this stump to play in your photo? did you want it to stand out from your background, perhaps an unmoving object to anchor your photo through your long exposure? Did you want to to work with the environment and be a blended piece of the image?

Thank you! Well when I was shooting I think I liked the composition because the root upset the balance and harmony between the water and the land in the background, like perhaps it was even misplaced in such a lively and beautiful background, if you understand that

i was thinking that about the balance... it certainly does upset the balance. I think you should try selling this image to one of the environmental companies, or let them you is or something. "A beautiful place with an ugly truth" kind of thing.

On the Discovery & History channels they have these logging shows. I can't watch them. Watching them take every tree of the face of a mountain is very upsetting to me.

Yeah, its horrible, whenever we drive up to the ocean, we pass through these forests (well they used to be forests) and now its all just barren stumps, I mean yeah at least you didnt cut the stumps but how long is it going to take for that tree to grow back?! Its horrible

josephhawk In reply to KsenKAT [2009-08-04 16:56:54 +0000 UTC]

well, usually cutting it and leaving the stump kills it. so it'll take 5+ years for the stump to decompose enough for new life to grow from it. I assume these companies aren't planting to replace.

Its horrible, when I drove from seattle to oregon, I saw a lumber factory and there were acres of trees! I was like

AMAZING FOTOGRAPH!
I have a image like this one on my mind, for a future 3d animation for my demo reel.
A lake like this one, with mountains in the background, and in the foreground some ground, with a 3d witch character I have and a talking tree!
