Thanks, funny some poeple don't always recognise her from this picture, think its because she looks a lot more glamarous than she normally looks in Buffy.

What are Prismacolor pencils? I never heard this word before...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ktalbot In reply to esyre [2006-04-06 23:06:34 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I should maybe have chosen an image of her people are more familliar with, I just thought she looked very pretty in this one. Prismacolor pencils are wax based colored pencils, they have a fairly soft color core making them quite easy to layer and blend. they are made by an American comapany I beleive making them hard to find outside the USA. I had to buy mine via eBay and get them shipped over.

esyre In reply to ktalbot [2006-04-07 09:08:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your comments! You are so kind! And thanks also for the information about Prismacolour Pencils. Some time go I liked it very much to work with "Polychromos" - it's a oil-based pencil. Maybe it is similar to what you use. But I gave up working with it (mainly) because it takes too much time for bigger pictures and the colour doesn't get as deep as I want it to.
You have great drawing skills as visible on your Gollum! I'm looking forward to more pictures of you!

Have a great time and much inspiration!

ktalbot In reply to esyre [2006-04-07 18:04:00 +0000 UTC]

Your welcome. Yes Prismacolor are similar to Polychromos from what I have read, main difference being that they are wax based instead of oil based so it is best to use a fixative on finished artwork to prevent wax bloom. I am working on a new portrait now, of Zhaan from Farscape which I hope to have finished in the next couple of weeks if I get enough spare time.

Hi again! Unfortunately I don't know Zhaan from Farscape - but nevertheless I'll watch the portrait with pleasure when it will be finished! How big are the pictures you draw?
So I wish you to get much spare time to be creative!

She's an alien character with blue skin I guess I could post a work in progress of it, never done one of those before. Most of my portraits are done about A3 size.

esyre In reply to ktalbot [2006-04-08 16:57:52 +0000 UTC]

I'm really looking forward to your new portrait - seems to be very interesting!
When I draw portraits I use A3 or A2 size - but I don't like it very much to do portraits... Sometimes it happens that someone asks me to do so and if I've got the time I do it.
These little figures are done in A4 size - not so big because it's easier to handle when I wanna take it wherever I go. Usually I like to draw bigger - most of the watercolours are about 30x40cm or bigger.

Amazing detail, especially with the earrings, and like the others said, the hair and likeness. Do you use the colorless blender they sell? Just curious. Darn it! I'm going to have to go and buy more prismacolors. I bought about four, since the sets were over my budget at the time, but I'll have to give in now.

Lovely!

ktalbot In reply to Gloredhel04 [2006-04-05 20:38:04 +0000 UTC]

I got a set of 72 off eBay for about $20 which was a bargain. No I don't have a colorless blender, I mainly used white or a lighter color over a mix of darker colors to blend them.

Gloredhel04 In reply to ktalbot [2006-04-05 22:02:00 +0000 UTC]

That is a great deal, the sets I was looking at were upwards of $80 USD. After I sell back my books, I should be able to afford a set of 48 or so.

Try eBay there were quite a few good bargains to be has when I was looking, especially in th US. I'm in UK so I had to pay an extra $20 just for shipping, even so it was still a bargain.

Your colored pencil skills are awsome , I like how you captured her likeness very well I guess the only thing I can see that might be weird is that the nose bridge doesn't seem to taper, so the thickness of the bridge looks the same from the base of the nose to the base of the forehead. Not a major problem

I love the details and the color highlights in the hair ... and you preserved the movement of the hair very nicely
