Thanks I blend with either cotton wool, tissue or quite often I use those rubber tipped shaper brushes designed for oils, they work really well blending charcoal and pastels

I find if you want to build up a lot of leyers with patel or charcoal it helps to spray fixative after you build up the initial colouring then you can work on top without disturbing the layers of colur you have already put down.

They are made by Derwent, available in most art shops here in the UK.
