SCRAP BOOK SERIES: I'm cleaning out my website so I can make it all neat and shiny and actually professional looking, but can't quite bring myself to just toss all my old archive drawings (I've always been kind of a pack-rat). So I'll be posting them all here on DA. Sorry to my followers for bombarding your in-boxes!The Monkey Island series is one of my absolute favourite computer game series, right alongside Grim Fandango, Sam n' Max, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and Kings Quest VIII: The Princeless Bride (YES you heard me right!)
My brother had picked up a Monkey Island 1 and 2 double pack, and since MI 1 didn't come with its own case (and I was playing it so much) I drew this up and stuck it on a spare cd case. YAY.
Medium: pencil crayon and marker, done many many years ago...

To be honest, I never played much of Monkey Island, though I did play the third one. I even let my sister play that same one, and it was like Monty Python meets Treasure Island. Still, I also enjoyed Fate of Atlantis (Indy), Indy and the Last Crusade, King's Quest, Quest for Glory, and Space Quest as my all-time favorite adventure games. You did well in this piece. Whenever I think of pirates, I am always reminded of the Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean films, or Monkey Island. This even got me interested in doing my own pirate-themed fantasy series. If anyone is interested, I could talk about it.

Oh insult swordfighting. Best game dynamic ever. Much better than the accursed monkey battles in Escape from Monkey Island.

BTW another great old adventure game you can probably find for download somewhere is Companions of Xanth, based on Piers Anthony's books. [link] It's really fun and whenever I think of monkey island it reminds me of it because at the very start of the game when you get a phone call you can shout at the person on the phone 'I AM GUYBRUSH THREEPWOOD AND I'M A MIGHTY PIRATE' and then hang up. It might lose the game, but it's impossible to resist. XD

If only Lucasarts could get back to making awesome games like Monkey Island again. Latest I heard was that there would be a fifth game, some time in the future, eventually.

I loved Monkey Island... but I could never beat it. I got stuck on one of the "find this and use it here" puzzles.
