Tonight we went to see a great local production of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, The Nutcracker. We saw it last year too, which inspired these drawings, so I decided it would be the perfect time to post them. I don't know much about ballet, but it was fun to draw a few poses anyway. Ballet dancers are so strong and muscular and also seem so light and elegant, they're really inspiring artistically.

The drawings are great, but when you draw dancers, try to keep proper ballet technique. (Sorry Imma a huge stickler for things like this). Clara's leg in her arabesque is completely turned in, her knee should be facing the audience. The sugar plum passé is too high and both he legs are rather turned in, her arms should be even and her shoulders are raised. Ballet is all about these things, all about technique. Hope this is helpful for any future dance drawings!

Thanks for the notes, but as I'm not much of a dancer (and especially not a ballet dancer), it's kind of hard to "keep proper ballet technique" in my drawings. Mostly I was drawing from what I remember after seeing the show, though I have been told I draw ballerinas in generally pretty good form. I don't usually do that much research for these little sketches, but apparently some people might wish I did! Ha ha.

Ha ha, yes, I thought about taking it out since it's not totally relevant to the rest of the sketches, but then I decided to just leave it in.
