The new year is a time of new beginnings and changes! Well... here's a familiar character... although you may note she looks rather different.So... question time for the watchers! Would you still consider this character to be a Yoshi? If so, why? If not, what species would you consider her to be?
What do you think of her in this style?
I promise... when it's not stupid early in the morning and stuff, I'd be totally happy to provide an explanation (or at least try), but right now, the words don't really wanna come easily or elegantly and beliiiiiiiieve me I tried!!!!
Anyways... I hope you enjoy this new style Selena. Of course, I'm curious as to what you all think of it; in the end, I'm going to take my advice and draw my characters the way I want to and the way I feel comfortable, but I'm still just curious to hear from you all and what not ^^ Thanks for your time~

I really like this design to be honest, it's really unique and I really like how round the cheek is in contrast to her snout. But that's just my opinion. ^_^

Wow K! This change of style is very pleasing to look at. I feel it definitely suits you more than the Yoshi style. If anything this departure from that old style is like a maturation of an artist. I still draw Yoshi every now and again, but it has a lot of major differences that keep it apart from the lil dino.
Anyway I'm rambling. I think this is a step in the right direction. I like it a lot. She looks so classy!

Yeah that is different. She may lose her physical Yoshi-like style, but the patterns are still pretty Yoshi-like. Also nice muzzle (It's the kind of muzzle I want to work around. I'm recently having friends that aren't Yoshis and it's going to be difficult getting used to drawing muzzles that aren't round noses that are easy to draw >w<)

Glad you like! Yeah it took a lot of practice to get a muzzle like that, studying dogs, lizards, snakes, all kinds of angles, but it paid off!

It's more beautiful in color. About the change... Like I said before, it'll take me a while to get used to, but it's becoming more convincing with color.
(Small spoiler from my project) In the world of my story, different Yoshis have a different appearance and/or general abilities due to a change in their genetic code which they were born with, not implanted or "corrupted" but radioactive whatevers. For example, the largest sub group is the "dragon dinosaurs" or the Kyogonians (corrupted portmanteau of Japanese words), which their main gene that gives them their four wings, selects skin colors, and square nose is the wyvern gene, which by the way is recessive to the mainstream Yoshi gene.
Why not say genetics had something to do with it? (I'll loan you my idea.)

That's very interesting lore, but Iiiiii think I like the idea of just calling her a hybrid more x3 But hey, it's really cool to know more about that idea for your world :>
Yeah, I totally get it'll take folks getting used to, I'm certainly not expecting everyone to recognize and get it immediately xD I honestly won't even mind people drawing her in the more traditional yoshi style still, just me personally, I needed the change.

About the species, I could call it an hybrid Yoshi like I do with my characters, because she looks like a mix of Yoshi and gecko (super cute mix!).
