Okay, Yes. I know it's super short. But it's just an opening for a fanfiction I'm working on at the moment for UchihaLord15. I really liked it though, so I'm presenting it both in that fanfiction and here, as its own oneshot. Enjoy.

--SASUKE'S POV.

I should have expected this.

This girl, who has loved me for so long. The girl I've loved in return. Of course she would be here.

To tell me not to go, to beg me to stay with her. But I have to leave her to gain more power, so I can avenge my family.

That's been the plan for nearly half my life, and I didn't plan to go back on it now.
"So I'm begging you.... please don't walk away!" She cried to me.

I turn to her, intent to mutter anything that will break the heart that I hold to easily in my blood-soaked hands.

I can't put her in jeopardy. Her, the girl I can't be subjected to the life I see before me, full of blood and deceit.

She's too delicate. Too... precious. I can't do that to her. I won't bring myself to ask.
"You haven't changed. You're still annoying." I hear myself state, and the look on her face makes my insides coil.

How can I be so heartless? So... unclear about my true self?
She whispers one final thing to me. "Please, Sasuke-kun, I'll do anything. Take me with you."

I pause.

Now that she has said it, it begins to sound like a more reasonable idea. She's asking, not me.

"Sakura, do you know what you're asking for? Do you want your days to be filled with pain? Deceit? Danger?Are you ready to give up your life?"

She doesn't look uncertain, not even for a second.

"Sasuke-kun, if I'm with you, I'm not giving up my life. Because you are my life."

I suddenly have an overwhelming need to break down crying.

How can she give me so much, when I can give so little in return?

"I'll take you with me, Sakura. I'll take you, and never let you go. Do you promise to always love me, no matter how deep the darkness penetrates inside me?"

She smiles at me, the expression that suits her best. I hate those tears she cried for me. The tears shed because of me. At that moment, I promise myself to never make her cry, ever again.

Her promise is just as sincere as she responds.

"I promise."

With that, I turn, but hold out my hand for her to take. How long it's been, that I've waited for this touch.

"Come, Sakura. We have to go." I urge, and she steps forward. With her hand securely in my own, I begin the walk into my dark, uncanny, destiny that awaits in the Sound Village.

But with her by my side, destiny seems just a small bit kinder.
