On a related note, how do you come up with everything the players say? It's so insane sometimes, I can hardly believe they actually say it! Do you just sit down and think of things for them to say, or do you look for inspiration for the insanity?

It's actually kind of hard.
I just try to think of weird things I've learnt from documentaries or news stories or other video games.
(For example, that decomposing beached whales can explode.)

That's "somewhat" similar to how I find inspiration for things in my writing. Though I use different references for different things. For example, in a 6 year project I've been working on, I've been working on a way to justify why a character acts the way they do, or does what they do. For example, in a now 6 year long project I've been working on, different people fight for different reasons. These reasons vary anywhere from religious obligation to pure bloodlust.
