Hi, I have a question: Do you have to put the lineart layer into multiply mode? Or is that because the background you have it on isn't transparent (Sai's default setting) and is actually white? If you can answer this it'd be really helpful for me because I'm still learning Sai. ^^

kuraiaku In reply to Chuushiri [2013-03-08 17:30:30 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the situations, if the lineart have black lineart on white background, it needs to be set to multiply on the topmost layer, but if it's black lineart on transparent background you don't need to put it on multiply.

Hey, Firstly: This is amazing your style is Beautiful. I love it.
2ndly: Is the program SAI you used to create this. Is it better to use SAI or Photoshop as I have been using photoshop to create my paintings for a while now but people say SAI is better. I would like your proffesional opinion if possible.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kuraiaku In reply to xRizo [2011-09-15 01:19:18 +0000 UTC]

thank you, I'm glad that you like my work
for the question, it actually depends solely on your preferrence, since the main difference between SAI and photoshop is the blending mode and the tools provided. While photoshop gives a broader ranger of tools on painting, it also need more complex knowledge to master all the tool, thus maybe need longer time to master it than SAI.
SAI excels in simple interface and more fluid blending brush. Easier to learn but it lacks editing features.
If you need simple and easier tool you'd probably choose SAI, but if you need complete painting and retouching tools with all its filter features then you need phothoshop more

Thanks for the quick reply
I'll have a look at SAI and see how it works, maby paint a few random things to see how it compares to photoshop. Thanks again & keep up the great work...

I like the drawwing but the tutorial is confusing.

Infact I only looked at it for the drawwing ;D I use photoshop CS5 extended cuz one, I hate sai, two, I have mac.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kuraiaku In reply to DoomSong8765 [2011-09-14 10:54:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah actually I didn't intend to create a real tutorial back then, I was just putting in all my shortcut with WIPs, I really didn't expect these many people would watch this tutorial even got a DD .. O.oa
yeah for someone pretty familiar with Photoshop it really does quite hard to adapt with SAI, since I felt that way too the first time I tried SAI LOL

DoomSong8765 In reply to kuraiaku [2011-09-15 04:33:09 +0000 UTC]

Mmm yeah. But I dont really like using sai anywways haha xD Its a good program but I lovve Adobe CS5 programs.

I still really lovve your drawwing though its quite good.

While your art style is beautiful, I don't find this tutorial to be very useful at all. The format is all over the place, with messy text and confusing instruction.

Is it better to freehand lineart or use the curve tool?

And if this is the language I think it is...

Apakah lebih baik lineart freehand atau menggunakan alat kurva?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kuraiaku In reply to DavidScript [2011-09-14 10:59:14 +0000 UTC]

It depends, when you need to draw lines of organic things such as body shape or drapery I'd like to use free hand since if I used curve tool I have the tendency to make it feels too "computerized" <_<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidScript In reply to kuraiaku [2011-09-14 23:57:37 +0000 UTC]

I feel the same. I think I'll start freehanding my lines instead of using the curve tool
