Description In spirits of the Scott Pilgrim movie that's coming out August 13!! I can't wait~ I love the comics and I love Edgar Wright, so this should be pretty damn epic.

The story is basically my life... so i decided to draw a SP-style picture featuring everyone I love, hate and love-to-hate.
But... it went a little overboard.

enjoy, and please watch Scott Pilgrim vs. The World when it comes out August 13!!!

The link you left me in a note did not work, but I think this is what you wanted to be critiqued? so here goes....

This is not easy to critique at all because I know nothing about the show or exactly what you're trying to do here besides simply showing the supposed characters of the show.

And this is a cartoon rendition so anatomically speaking, everything goes. But the first thing which is most important is the colouring. The clothes of these characters have seem to have no shadows at all!! Now when we deal specifically with cartoons this is normally acceptable but to give these characters' clothing more form, you should incorporate shadowing into them. Since it is a cartoon, you cannot go overboard with shadows. Now every character is overlapping another character so there needs to be a huge deal of shadowing going on in the clothes skin and hair. This piece is totally lacking shadowing.

For example the girl in red holding what seems to be an axe (by the way I thought this was a shovel at first sight, so if it is meant to be an axe you should use harsher angles in the lines to create sharpness) has just one shade of red in her shirt. To give it a bit more form, use a darker red to create shadowing. Bearing in mind that it is a cartoon, it is best not to exceed more than 2 shades of one colour so 3 or 4 shades of red on this shirt would be too much for the subject matter to handle.

Now that I am on this girl, there is something else I need to point out about her. The arm holding the axe is too stiff. This is acceptable if you are trying to convey a sense of toughness/ aggressiveness in the personality of the character, but her bright and cheerful facial expression says otherwise. Eg.....If she is agressive then the arm can stay stiff, but to match that the face should have a "mean" expression. Likewise, if she is meant to be nice and cheerful then the facial expression can stay, but the arm needs to be loosened up to make it look more natural.

Something about the girl with the grenade in her hand........she seems to be standing on a sort of "imaginary" podium, but I'm wondering why one side is rounded off (left side) but the right side has an unusual pointed shape. Also her crown is not following the curvature of her head. It needs to be tilted more to the right.

The next thing is the character designs. I don't know the show so I can't tell you whether they are correct or not but all the eyes looking the same is slightly unappealing to me. This is more of a conceptual critique what I'm about to say......ok so we've seen thousands of fan art out there where all the characters are squished into one picture but that's all it is, a mix mosh of all the characters not really doing anything. It is perfectly fine to do pieces like this but to make it stand out, there should be some kind of concept/theme behind it. I notice that the girl is holding a grenade so this show could have so action in it. If so, let the characters engage in some dynamic poses, ones that really stand out to make the viewers eyes dance across the paper in sheer awe. The girl in the front seems to be the only one really doing anything. The themes and concepts that you think up should have something to do with the show since this is fan art.

This is all I can say about this piece I'm afraid. Since I have no Idea what the show is about or what the characters look like, I can say no more.

I hope this was helpful to you!
