Description Woo hoo! Kitsuke day!

My kimono collection has increased a lot this year, but I haven't gotten pictures of my treasures being worn. So today I got all dressed up!

For this ensemble I actually layered my Tsuruhiki and Mizuhiki hikizuri. They were never actually meant to be worn together, but I wanted to see if they'd work together - and they do!

Now since they are both dance kimono, I decided to go for a look that was somewhat "stagey" so I played with the obiage a bit. It's actually a silk scarf I bought in Turkey.

Thank you! I really enjoyed using the tuquoise in this ensemble. I don't think it would work with any of the other kimono I own, but with this one it does.

Thank you very much! I was going for a vintage 20's or 30's look. You see I was watching a silent movie with one of my friends and we were admiring one of the actresses. Suddenly my friend says, "Why were girls so much prettier then, than they are now?" We started discussing it and came to the conclusion that a lot of silver screen actresses had a sort of geisha look going on. You know, pale skin with striking eyes and lips. Also because it was fashionable to have more meat on you at the time, a lot of them had rather round faces. Anyways, with my love for taisho kimono, he and I decided we should try to bring 20's/30's fashion back into style. So the makeup idea came from that discussion.

The soft look on the photos looks so excellent in stunning contrast to the makeup. No wonder the geisha have a look that's worked so well for the last 300 years!
