A glimpse into Nghu's past life, with cameos of Lop and Svass , and Makir, my other esk , and even birdfeet 's esk Drift . Can you tell who is whom? ; )

25 haikus done for the haiku event! This was a real challenge, as it's the first time I've ever done anything like a haiku before.
It was difficult keeping to all the rules listed, particularly about 2 subjects in juxtaposition, a 'keen observation', and seasonal references. I admit I did leave out seasonal references in a few of these haikus, choosing the more abstract term of 'time' as a compromise. I hope that's not a problem :'D

What is a Haiku?
- An English-language haiku sometimes contains of 17 total syllables
- English-language format is sometimes composed of 3 lines of 5-7-5 (syllables)
- 2 simple subjects are often placed in juxtaposition
- These 2 subjects are often separated by punctuation
- A keen or unusual observation is made by comparing the two subjects
- Haiku often contains a seasonal reference
- Poems are traditionally about nature or the natural world
For those who find the font difficult to read, here's the text version:
1.

Windswept spring leaves sway;

A boy picks up a hammer

In a forge, flames bright.

2.

Autumn dawns like age;

Grows the boy, now a blacksmith.

Skills and trinkets gleam.

3.

“Come forth”, says the king,

Voice like summer breeze, and bade

The blacksmith. He heeds.

4.

Blooms friendship, as spring.

Citadel’s grand forge is his.

Smith and king ally.

5.

In the king’s keeping,

Designs of winters long gone.

His smile is wistful.

6.

Old as fall branches,

Layout to build a temple.

The smith’s job begins.

7.

Knowledge of ages

Past. King takes up the hammer.

Surprise finds the smith.

8.

Steady hammer falls

Echo. His smile fair like spring.

Smith falls for the king.

9.

The temple builds high,

Beyond winter’s reach. To please,

The king gifts a god.

10.

A god of fire

Descends. Love in the king’s eyes.

Winter fills the smith.

11.

Silence in the forge.

The king loves the god, not he.

Wine tastes as fall leaves.

12.

Flame blaze summer trees.

Cries haunt battlefields; red flows.

Blacksmith bars the gates.

13.

“Follow me”, says He.

The god whisks away the king;

The smith refuses.

14.

War draws ever close,

Citadel covered in snow.

Smith is now a lord.

15.

Knock on winter’s door.

A man sent by fire god:

The smith’s bodyguard.

16.

The guard and the smith,

The citadel commands. Live

Hard times, fast friends make.

17.

Laughter in lone halls.

Wine with company less bland.

The smith finds new spring.

18.

The smith and the guard

In a different time. Wonders:

Would happiness find?

19.

Summer, but lifeless.

War at doorstep, quiet walls.

Breath before the plunge.

20.

Ravage, war horns blare.

The smith hides the guard. “Keep safe,”

Says, “thou art spring mine”.

21.

Guard embraces smith.

“Duties mine art be done”, ere

He runs blade through smith.

22.

Blood soaks autumn grounds.

Upon dying smith, stands now

Creature of lost souls.

23.

‘Thou art lost?’ it asks.

Mercy granted with a curse.

The smith is no more.

24.

Bound to the grand forge,

Of iron hue and thyme, is

Creature of smith’s shade.

25.

Timeless seasons pass.

Citadel turns to rubble.

Shade longs for his spring.
