Description Β  About:
You have probably all seen it done without knowing the technical term for it: that "blurry background / blurry foreground thing" that can help you get some depth into your manip. The technical term - Depth of Field - describes the part of a photograph that is in focus while the camera renders everything outside the DoF as blurry. In this tutorial, I am trying to teach you how the effect comes about in classic photography (without going into too much detail - the photographers present are asked to excuse this), what you need to look out for in terms of pitfalls and how to use Photoshop tools to simulate the effect.

I would love to hear your comments - all my tutorials are free, but the time it takes to write them is usually considerable, so a little feedback would be welcome, to keep my spirits up

This is Part 2 of 2 - Part 1 can be found here fav.me/d6ufmtp

DoF is something I don't think I consciously take into consideration. I will now.

Hmm...I see the Lens Blur filter in my near future lol. I've seen it in the blur menu but never really tried it because I wasn't sure about the various settings, so thanks for the info! Do you ever use Field Blur? I usually use it and/or Gaussian, but I don't really understand how Field Blur works either, usually just play around with the setting until I like the effect.

I've never used field blur, so I have no clue what that one does either Maybe I should try it though

These tutorials are wonderful - in depth enough to understand the techniques but not technical enough to scare anyone away!Β  A brilliant reference for both those new to photomanipulation and those that have been around for a while.Β  :3Β  Thank you!

Very very helpful.Β  I've used Guassian many times, but never Lens Blur.Β  I've used Radial and Motion blur on overlays to try and get the same look, but the addition of the specular lights make lens blur worth a try.Β  Thanks!!

Und wieder was gelernt

Excellent tutorial series. Β Thanks for explaining the differences of Gaussian and Lense blurs. Β I've only used the Gaussian for most things, just reducing the opacity of the blur for a cheap, subtle effect. Β This has definitely taught me some things. Β I love depth of field and never tried it in my digital art. Β I'll keep your tutorial in mind the next time I attempt something.

I have not used the Lense Blur effect before; I always go for Gaussian, even if sometimes the results are not what I want. Guess cos I don't know what all the other blurs do Will definetely give it a try!
