Description I just learned a new photoshop technique I had to try out
Picture taken in Vietnam last year. The path leading between different parts of the My Son ruins (probably built by the same civilisation as Ankor wat in Cambodia, just not as huge, and pretty much destroyed by the americans during the vietnam war) near Hoi An.

Post-processing:
Sharpened. Adjusted the levels. Added two blurred (gaussian blur) copies of the background layer and set the blending mode to overlay (100% and 50% opacity). Added a black and white layer with a orange tint with high saturation (50% opacity). Added a hue and saturation layer and made the saturation a little bit higher. Added a little bit of vignetting and a frame.

the way it leads off into the "back" of the photo (Because I don't want to use the wrong technical term and look like a hack it almost looks painted, it's a great effect you've achieved with the blur. The edits really give the photo life compared to the original.

Seems like a part of your message is gone or something
But I still kind of get what you're saying, at least about the post-processing, so thanks

Hmm, I don't really like the soft look. It reminds me of early 90's soaps

I like the shot otherwise...just not the softy look

Did they really have a soft kind of look in the early 90's soaps ?
Personally I love this effect, but I do understand why people might not like it, like my older brother who wants photos to be sharp and thought that this one looked more like a painting, but in a way, that's what I like about it, and the fact that it gives it a kind of fairytalish feel.

Also it doesn't work on every picture, I tried it on about 20 pictures after learning the technique, before I tried it on this one and thought it looked "perfect", and definately a lot better than the original.

Well, not all the time. But whenever someone was supposed to look (what they thought of as) sensual they put on a soft lens and went in close. Never liked soaps and that prolly lead to my dislike of the soft lens

Agree with the fairy tale look, it gives it an etheral look. Maybe you just did it a bit too much for my tastes. Oh wells, I'm damaged
