Could you please give us more detail about how to install mate-panel and global menu? If we replace wingpanel by mate-panel, is Slingshot still there?

yes, but you will have to create a custom launcher to launch slingshot. To install mate-panel you have to add their repositories and then after running an update run thin in a terminal: sudo apt-get install mate-panel

try to run it with sudo
sudo mate-panel
and see if it works
if not then you will need to install mate core elements with
sudo apt-get install mate-core mate-desktop-environment

Install mate-core and gtk2-engines-pixbuf package solved the problem. But mate-panel just run one time, when I tried to change the panel background, it disappeared. Now it doesn't work anymore. I tried to run it manually but had no luck.
