It's taking me a bit of time, but I am getting around to all of my older requests, and I don't ever forget them! I can't quite remember who exactly requested this, but I know they wanted 'either Hayate Gekko or Kimimaro', and so here it is!
Unlike my color-heavy pictures (my Luffy vs. Lucci drawing excluded, strangely), this pencil-only drawing scanned pretty nicely, which I am very grateful for. Hopefully my re-scan of Naruto and Kurama will be as fortunate!
I'm really starting to get the hang of some of the advanced shading techniques I'm trying, and I'd love it if I could get some opinions on it.
Any and all positive critique and feedback is always welcome!

Yeah, I'm tending to use a different style of shading on my anime fan arts that's much more realistic than the original. I'm really glad that it is liked.
And yeah, I hope to get it uploaded in the near few days. Even if I can't catch up on DA, I might upload them anyway.

Yes, shading with lead is my bread and butter, even though I don't eat butter....
Well, I can try.
I've tried just about all of the types of shading, and I do use cross-hatch every now and then for certain textures. But mostly, I freestyle and have the pencil strokes match the direction of the shadows.
The most important things about the way I shade are the darkness and blending. I start off SUPER light everywhere that isn't pretty much white and I make small marks to show where the folds, shadows and shade changes occur. I know this sounds strange, but after the super light H4, I use 2-5B to get the really dark areas. And after the light and dark, I go through and get all of the mid-tones. It looks semi-messy in some areas, but what really helps it all come together is the blending stumps and tortillions. Start in the light areas, and depending on which ways the shadows change, I blend light first, dark next, and then blend them in just a bit with the mid-tones. Once it all looks nice and smooth, I go through and slightly erase all of the areas that darkened up too much during the blending. After pretty much tapping at it with the eraser, and the eraser shavings are removed, I blend it again and repeat until it's not only nice and smooth, but is also as light as it needs to be. And after blending, I usually go back, re-shade again, especially in the dark areas that were lightened too much in the blending, and then I blend and erase some more, etc.
And as for cross hatching, I do use it on really heavy and thick clothing. Like a Naruto headband cloth or something like that, although it's hard not to make it look too clean when you're done.
I know these might be very unhelpful, but it's the best I can describe in typing.

I have a bunch of shading pencils, but I don't use them all that often...I just use a normal pencil. HB.
