Here they are again... I draw them all the time these days, as I'm waiting for a reply from the publishers that were interested in my stuff... so I'm just killing time! I hope you don't get too fed up with these guys!This was done with gouache painting and the background in photoshop.

Very nice, I like the gouache look
Emily looks thinner than usual at the waist here, or maybe her top is just tighter-fitting... or maybe it's just me? Also Hawkin's shading looks kinda flat compared to Emily's wonderfully voluminous skirt ^^

Yes, I did make her waist thinner, because it enhances her hips. I think it also gives a slightly more evident early-twenty look! Anyway, thank you for your comment!

You actually painted that in Gouche? I've just started using that in art school and I know how much of a pain it can be to try to avoid making mistakes with that so I can really appreciate the perfection of this art!

hehe, yes that is gouache! but the problem with gouache is that you have to use very little water (so it's really thick, which helps if you want for your painting to look smooth), and then it takes a lot more time to paint!

I guess that helps with the covering of mistakes. I thought gouache was one of the tougher mediums to cover mistakes with, although I oftentimes made it too thin causing lots of inconsistencies instead a solid colored mass.

yes, it's muuuuch easier to cover up a mistake with gouache then with watercolor! but your gouache needs to be quite thick...

Have you ever used acrylics? Going from gouache to acrylics I feel for the most part acrylic has superior qualities and it's definetly easier to control!

I love gouache, because the painting can be very smooth, and gives that animation-cell look to it... But it's extremely slow, especially compared to watercolor!

Well, he's kind of a very nervous guy, and the only thing that calms him is smoking... But don't worry, I certainly don't smoke, and don't encourage people to do so!

I love the contrast between these two. Emily has a rather sweet look to her, while Hawkins has a tendancy to sneer.
