Yeah i mean i wish i could get to the point where i was comfortable doing that, But next to all of those body building Canadians its really discouraging. One step at a time i suppose, not a 3.5 mile hike with a 3200 ft elevation. I just wish I read more about it before jumping into it. I was literally weighing out my options of calling a helicopter to save my dumb ass by the time i got to the top. Im only an American i dont have a lot of expectations to live up to when it comes to fitness. I still look good for my age and height so im gonna ride with that for as long as possible

LOL on the helicopter.
I hope to be an American amongst Canadians soon. Need money first...
But yes- start small with something you're comfortable with, and then work your way up in increments and remember that pain in the ass phrase people like to use so much: no pain, no gain. Another good one is "if it doesn't hurt, you're not doing it right", lol. And its true: you build the most muscle when you've done so much that you think you can't do anymore.
I got some of those "time-as-you-walk" shoes about a month ago, and made them my everyday all day even at work shoes. It's ridiculous how much leg muscle I've built since I got them. I've noticed the pain come and go in stages: searing, constant pain that I could likened to being on fire, then a mildly irritating ache, then it was gone. Mind you, this was over the course of about a week, I guess... Then the cycle repeats and more muscle builds.
The trick is definitely to exercise a little every day.
Sorry if that was too much. O.o

I did make it back down in the same day for the record. but it was only because i literally had no choice. Not gonna lie and say it was do my awesome perseverance and dedication. I think i tried to cried at some point but even my face muscles hurt too bad

Was there a lot of snow on the way? That would make the hike ~25% harder.

honestly, no. lol. I took in my opinion a better picture of south dakota sunrise without any more effort than getting up hours earlier then im used to. Which is still a strenuous effort. lol. I really wish i could honestly say it was. But i dont think i can

Yeah i realized that after i couldnt change the title. I really wish i tried to speak to you before. Canadians are way more in shape and still warned me, but of course i thought they were exaggerating. I was literally crawling up the ice rocks on that last stretch. I just wish i was smart enough to wear something more then sneakers and bring a scarf/hat/gloves. United states "difficult" is a very far cry from Canadian "difficult". Ensuring Americans stupidity as well. I got to the top and had to weight out my options to contemplate if it would be worth risking freezing to death as long as i didnt have to go back down. I made it back the same day, without any dignity. You're my hero for doing that more than once
