Description "Where are you going?" Micajah shouted after her, stomping loudly through the darkened alleyway.
Samantha didn't stop. "I'm going to find someone else."
There was a pause, and suddenly his hand was enclosing around her wrist. "Um, no." He laughed nervously. "You're coming with me."
Wrenching her hand away, she said, "Cage, get your hand off of me! I told you, tonight, I want to be with someone else."
"But… Samantha…" He was getting angry now. "You know, I could threaten to tell your mother if you don't come with me." There was an edge to his voice she didn't like.
She stopped to glare at him. "You wouldn't."
"I would," he sighed. "And you're only nineteen, love. What would she say about her precious, virtuous flower?"
Samantha scoffed at those disgusting words. "Are you really that desperate, Micajah, twenty and already married?"
He assessed her words carefully. "You never call me, Micajah… Are you really that angry with me?"
She swallowed hard before answering. "Robert," was all she said.
There was visible confusion on his face. "Is that was this is about? Do you think I've ruined something with him?"
"Of course you have!" she shouted angrily. "Obviously! He must think we have some sort of… of paramour or something! The way you leeched on to me in that kitchen… what was he doing in there anyway?!"
"I  suspect looking for a snack." Micajah smirked. "Miss Straine is a terrible hostess. That last party she threw only contained a plate of tiny sandwiches."
"Ugh!" Samantha threw up her hands. "This is so typical of you! To make a joke when I'm… and since when do you care how well Vivian throws a stupid tea party? I thought the point of all this," she gestured emphatically around at the decrepit buildings, "was to get away from all that. This is what got us… ME into this mess! So, thank you, Cage. I'll be on my way now."
"Samantha!" he whined. "Please! Stop… you're…" he groaned. "I'm sorry! Okay? I'm sorry. You're just… you're the only thing down here that actually makes me happy anymore."
"Yeah? Well, you should have thought about that before you let them marry you off to Abigail."
"Do you really think I had a choice in that?"
She stopped again to look him in the eye. "You're a man, aren't you?"
With nothing more to say, Micajah had to let her go.
