A month had just passed. But it didn't arrive. And I was starting to feel sick all the time. I cannot keep anything down save small glasses of water. It was two weeks ago that it should have come. Vivian said that I should just wait another two weeks, see if it does come. Perhaps I just skipped a week.
As I lay in bed, too nauseas to move, I hear a knock on my door. I say nothing and pretend to sleep. The door opens in spite of me. Footsteps cross the room, and a weight is placed on my bed.
"Samantha," said Micajah's voice. "Vivian tells me what might be ailing you." I ignore him and continue pretending to sleep. "I feel like this is all my fault… Your mother… she tells me she wants you to marry Lucas Wraith. I had to try hard not to laugh at her… But if there really is…"
"Don't you dare say it, Cage," I said, forgetting to be asleep.
"You are awake," he exclaimed. "Sam, I think you need to see a physician—"
"No!" I shouted, catching my volume, and continued, "I cannot! If anyone found out, I would be ruined! My family would be ruined, and I would forever be the Rowe's ridiculous daughter. I have to… I just have to get rid of it."

"Of what? Don't you dare say love! What you and I have, Cage, is nothing. We could have had something years ago. But you let them marry you to that Abigail. And I could have had a chance to be with him, my Robert. Only you've ruined that, haven't you! You just couldn't give me up after you had her, could you? Now I'm…" I broke into uncontrollable sobs. "Now I'll be stuck with that awful Lucas Wraith for the rest of my life!"
"The decision isn't final…" he said. "Maybe…"
