Description The wind whipped my hair around as I reached the top of the hill. The valley below made my heart ache. The statue at its center was mere crumbs. I walked slowly toward it, remembering as I did, how the ground shook when it fell…
"Lyena!" he screamed, and my head jerked to the sound of his voice.
He was running at me, but why? We were in the middle of a battle. His face was terrified, and I realized what the problem was when I heard the great creaking above me. Eyes widening, I looked up to find the statue representing the Goddess of the citadel falling in my direction.
Screaming my name again, he pushed through the crowds of armed men. A man crashed into me, forcing me out of the way of the falling statue, and I lost sight of him.
Sighing, I reach the first set of buildings. They sat in ruins now. The bodies of the dead had been long removed, along with their weapons. Save one. A shining black bow lay beneath the remains of the statue. My eyes blurred. Tears threatened to spill over. His bow. I remembered the first time I saw him use it… He was so graceful, never missing a shot. I took a deep breath. If his bow was under the statue then…
"Lyena."
I gasped. Arms wrapped around me from behind, and a kiss was gently placed on my cheek. A shaky breath escaped my mouth before I said, "Zac?"
He placed his hands on my on my shoulders and pushed me around to face him. When his blond hair and silver blue eyes came into view, my carefully designed composure from many years of training melted into near hysterical sobs.
"Calm down, love," he said. "I'm sorry."
"Stop," I said. "Just… hold me."
He flashed a smile, and I buried my face in his chest.
