Description This is what the finale lacked.

The Purple Dragon Theory was an idea formed in the lovely forums of ASN (Avatarspirit.net). The basic idea being that the "Sunstone" that Zuko picks up in The Firebending Masters is actually an egg with a dragon inside it.

"It feels...almost alive!"

The Sun Warriors would present him with the dragon in honour of the New Age of the Fire Nation. Righting his forefathers' wrongs, Zuko would reestablish the ancient bond between Firebenders and Dragons.

PDT grew into one of the most amazing theories around ASN, with proof and increasing logic as to why Zuko should have a [purple] dragon in the future. The show may have ended without a dragon, but when Ursa herself was left unanswered...

PDT is not dead yet. ;D

~ Major love and thanks and credit and more love goes to Aurora, of ASN, for starting this theory of awesome. <3 <3 <3

Back in the older days (Over a hundred years ago) Firebenders would commonly ride dragons, I think. Or maybe it's just a few. Such as the Firebender Avatar, he rode a dragon. Their story was kinda sad, though. This is a good theory! I thought it looked a lot like a dragon egg as well. Well, it was an egg that was protected by the Dancing Dragon form and guarded by the Sun Warriors who had two dragons as their 'leaders' or something. It makes perfect sense!

Actually it came out of my indecision for giving Zuko a blue or red dragon in one of my fanarts but afterwards the purple just sort of fit in every way.

The Blue and Red dragons represented the two sides to Zuko as seen in the second season (one was using Iroh's voice, the other Azula, and in the season finale he has to make his choice between them); Purple, therefore, would show that he's in peace wholly with himself - that there is no more doubt, confusion, or fear. Purple (and gold) can also be the colour of royalty (albeit, in the Western culture, not East). Purple can be harmony, unity etc.

But the PDT was always open to other colours as well of course Purple was just fitting, but any dragon would've kicked ass!

To add too that, the only two dragons left, are red and blue and if that sunstone is their egg than, well, makes sense it would end up purple...ish.

Maybe not. The only dragons we see are blue and red. My theory is that it's a gender thing. Males are red (Fang, Iroh in Zuko's dream, one of the Masters) while females are blue (Sozin's unnamed dragon[I'm assuming it's female for this theory to work], Azula in Zuko's dream, the other Master). Therefore, the dragon would be the color according to its gender. Just my theory.

Pet? Dragons are not pets. They are partners, companions, and soul-mates. Don't believe me, read Anne McCaffrey.
And this is probably the coolest PDT pic I've seen. (most of them are cute and goofy, but not coool.)

Yes, it must be an egg. A pet dragon would be pretty awesome!
