Practice, practice, PRACTICE. I know its cliche but that's really all there is to it. While fancy university classes do help, it's ultimately up to you to put in the work and effort in and out of class to pursue what interests you.
And yes, it's hypocritical in a sense since I don't practice as much as I should. D:
