Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, the currency in PokΓ©mon (and most other Japanese games) is roughly based on the Yen, which means that 200 "pokebucks" is roughly $2.00 american.
(It's just not worth it to spend the extra effort to hack the games display a decimal point, so they got american audiences used to it instead)
