Ever see the episode "Last One Out of Beach City"? It's the episode where Pearl meets Mystery Girl. The one where Pearl dresses a bit more street and tries to be cool. I don't know what to call Pearl when she acts like that, so I just call her New Pearl. You know, because "The old Pearl wouldn't have done anything like this, but this a new Pearl now!"

For my Spinel design, she actually subconsciously based her look off Steven!!
Can't see it here but the hoodie-vest is the same pink + white as Steven's jacket in the movie!
Though, it does have a yellow star on the back like Pearl's jacket! Wonder why... hehe.

They fade a bit with every reformation, but never truly go away.

The tear streaks, yeah, but everything else. Like her upside-down heart gem and messy hair. She has two forms, a happy form and a heart-broken form.
If that headcanon makes you happy, then have at it. It's not for me, but I won't spoil someone else's fun.

Well, I wouldn't say it's as easy as "happy" and "sad"...
Her original form is how she was made; happy, loving, loyal, bouncing, light.
But 6000 years of abandonment and the ensuing trauma caused her to poof...
You aren't going to be able to get rid of all that pain after a single reformation.
Spinel is going to take a lot of time to heal. She's not gonna switch back to how she was, ever.
It's not even really a headcanon; even Rebecca said Spinel is a "work in progress."

Well if Rebecca herself said so, then I suppose so. I think I'll still wait for the premiere of the new season just to be sure.
I still don't like the idea of a gem that can self-poof. It goes against what the TV show established, and trivializes other issues too.

Rebecca said at the recent book-signing that Spinel poofed from what would be a gem equivalent of "heartbreak syndrome."
In the episode where Amethyst pretends to be Jasper, Eyeball Ruby states she "almost dissipated her form from excitement."
Rebecca stated that ANY strong emotion can cause a gem to poof, not just physical damage.
In this case it was the shock and heartbreak that poofed Spinel.

I am familiar with the video. I saw it all ready.
It still conflicts with some details in the show.
Why did Pink Diamond need Pearl to poof her into Rose Quartz? She said it herself, "I can't exactly poof myself". There was a war going on, and she genuinely wanted to protect the Earth as far as I can tell. I guess she didn't care enough to self-poof.
Or, how about when the diamond authority attacked the Earth to end the war? Was that not enough to make any gems self-poof?
And the countless times Pearl went on and on about how much she misses Rose, it's a wonder she wasn't self-poofing constantly.
Peridot and Lapis went through their own emotional journeys. Peridot was (for a while) in constant panic-attack mode from being captured, adjusting to life on Earth without computers to explain everything, and even defying Yellow Diamond. Oh, and let's not forget how deeply depressed and hopeless Lapis often felt. I guess none of that was strong enough to trigger a self-poof either...
To me, it just makes more sense if extreme battle damage is the only way to make a gem poof. Even in the movie itself, from what we saw, Spinel didn't poof in the traditional way. It looked more like shapeshifting; she went directly from one form to another, no pause as just an inanimate gem. I think it'd make more sense if Spinel is just a gem that has some advanced shapeshifting powers that matches her feelings, something that would go with her goofy rubber limb abilities.
Like I said, I just want to wait until the new season. Even creators of a piece of fiction can change their mind on canon details before the next chapter/season/etc. comes out. I'd be glad to hear Rebecca expand on these details even more, clarify everything that doesn't quite make sense, but I'll just be patient for now.

Pink Diamond didn't really understand... a lot of things.
She genuinely believed the other Diamonds wouldn't care if she was gone. Is why she faked her shattering.
I doubt she realized, being a Diamond, being so isolated from how "normal" gems work... that she COULD self-poof.
Or that she ever experienced emotions strong enough to bring her to that point.
It couldn't been she didn't care enough- it wasn't until she met Greg that she truly started treated people as equals, after all.
To be fair, with Peridot and Lapis, their trauma and pain was extreme- but they also had NO TIME to reflect.
They were constantly on the run or, in Lapis case, holding back someone else. It also seems like they can hold it back.
If Eyeball ALMOST dissipated their form from excitement, it makes me think they had to stop themselves.
And Spinel poofed in the movie after Steven hit her with the Rejuvenator- she poofed like any normal Gem.
It took Bismuth a few seconds to poof after being stabbed, so Spinel also lasted a little longer after being sliced in half.
The CG's lasted a few seconds after being hit too- by everyone still poofed like normal.
If you mean the part during the end of the "Drift Away" song, that was just Spinel regaining her memories.
-nods- I agree though, it could be this is a new detail Rebecca added in recently (though the movie has been in the works for years)
I can't wait to see what Future will bring! All these corrupted!Steven theories and such, while I doubt true, are interesting.

I've actually been avoiding any news or speculation about the new season.
It's hard to do so because YouTube keeps thinking I want to see the newest video by Roundtable or something, but really, I want to be surprised! I like fiction when it takes me by surprise.

Yeeaah the Pink = Rose Quartz thing was a meme for the longest time...
Though not quite as meme-ish as "Onion is Yellow Diamond" - it was def a crack theory.
I started watching SU back when the "Garnet is a Fusion" theory had yet to be confirmed.
Things were simpler back then... but crazy!

I'm a very simple guy. I hardly ever think about going to message boards or social media to see what the fandom is saying about the show. I am happy just watching it by myself. It's only on a rare instance where I hear fan theories and what not. Might see stuff like that from a random YouTube video or from browsing SU fanart. Usually, by the time I hear about fan theories, they've even been confirmed or debunked.
