I have to be honest with you: I had mixed feelings when I saw this piece of work. It's exceptionally well executed, the Lady is herself is nothing short of magnificent, and, for a contemporary interpretation, I thought that this was a good concept. I had it in my head, however, that I wanted a picture of the traditional Nimue or a Vivienne, an immortal woman in rustic guard who appears ordinary and mortal, or the splashy (pun intended) Lady in white samite who not only walks on water but lives within it (and somehow never gets wet).
I spent an hour or so looking for a Vivienne figure, actually, but the majority of the ones that I found all seemed terrible clichés. I began to entertain the notion of using a contemporary interpretation and quickly narrowed it down to two that I liked best.
I like the dark background of the moon and the lightning and the birds that gives this piece a sense of foreboding. Vivienne had her own agenda and Arthur was but part of it. I like the fact that she is wet, because what kind of a water spirit would want to be impervious to the natural element of her magical domain? I like the haughty look created by her head tilted up and to her right, and I like that, were she to turn it toward the viewer, it might not at all be haughty inasmuch as its the angle. Her hair is incredible, and I dig her boots something fierce. It's easy to forget that the Lady of the Lake has more things going on than just a watery tart who lies in ponds and distributes swords. She plays the role as a temptress for many of Arthur's knights and the vast majority of her presence in the texts are in scenes other than her granting and Bedivere's return of Excalibur.
This piece is brilliant. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thank you! That's what I've been trying to practice on is my blending and shading, I think I'm starting to get there.

Thank you! I try to sort of come up with a back story or something like that as I make the picture.
