Hey, nice to see another piece from you! Love how (nearly) all of them got their own bubble. Fluttershy's expression is just the perfect mix of confusion and terrible realization... and those white stripes in her mane are really fashionable! Also, I believe drawing such tiny ponies was quite a job!
Though, I can't get rid of the feeling that Fluttershy is pregnant or something from the way her chest and abdomen are protruding

Interesting fact is that they are getting smaller, because people in past centuries hunted for the biggest of them. To be honest, I'm looking forward to switching back to some bigger animals. Been learning about potential energy of electrons and small molecules for quite a time

Technically, it is! I can think of a few options:
1) Island ecology says that small animals that got separated grow smaller, while big animals grow bigger.
2) Theoretically speaking, if the small whales were hunted, the bigger ones could reproduce and thus the birth of bigger whales would be far more frequent.
2.5) If I recall correctly, there was a ruler of some sort who wanted his guards to be frightening and worth respect just by their composure, so they had to marry only tall women and their sons then had to join in the guard. The more you know

But, there is some sort of... upper limit to this, right? They can't grow indefinitely after every generation, can they?

The guards probably not, but given good conditions, some species can grow for quite a time. The only limit can be the ratio of area and volume, causing troubles in thermoregulation, hydratation etc.
Just look at mammals; During the era of dinosaurs, they were all some sort of mice. From there it went to elephants! We never know what auntie Evolution has in store
