Description This is one, albeit, not the main reason I have been away for a while.

I'm trying to create my own lighting effects that look lifelike. I have been trying a few different methods, some work some don't, but I need to keep using Uber-environment light.

(For those not in the know, Uber-environment light is a type of light that put's light and shadow on everything in the scene, this is helpful to stop you getting jet black, shadows to your render and because of it's shadow engine, give surfaces, especially skin a very realistic look)

Unfortunately UE can flood your scene too much making it look too flat.

Exhibit A

It's a nice shot though so why not share it.

I'm working on a few sets as well as an animation but they are all just me testing a lot of things. I'm in a bit of a rut atm and I feel my renders should be better than they are, my lighting is quite sub-par to be honest.

Do you have fine control over things such as the whites of the giantess eyes? In some renders it seems like they are either too light or too dark, and I find the depiction of eyes to be one of the deal-makers or deal-breakers in terms of seeming life-like.

I do yes but I don't fix that kind of issue that way. Once I have chosen a skin matt, I don't have to pick the eye matt that comes with that particular matt (Pack). I can chose from many and change them how I see fit. You are right though Cariwebo, the eyes are so important in any render, they can show so much emotion, it's paramount I get them right. Sometimes I don't, sometimes the lighting doesn't shine on them correctly so they can look too dark and altering them would lose the feel of the scene, (I get that problem with models with brown eyes and big irises). I can change how light works on the eyes of even just the whites of them, but that can have some negative results, making eyes glow or look dead all together.

I know that with editing photos of people in Photoshop -- be it for collaging are even just straight-forward photography -- I frequently have to brighten at least the white of eyes and in other cases the whole eye and surrounding area if the brow is casting too much shadow or whatever.

Just one of the many details to try to get right to make a successful image, I guess...

Yeh I can see myself having to work a lot more with photoshop post render to get things more how I want them.
