Description
When I walked into the room I felt your gaze,Which I purposely ignored and looked away.
I met the gaze of everyone but you;
I bestowed a smile that wasn't true.
And though my heart was torn I hid it well.
Happiness became my outer shell.
I chatted and I laughed and I appeared
To be having too much fun for any tears.
Your gaze was always on me, so intense
My partners wondered why I stumbled when I danced.
For hours I was worried of your coming;
I fled as much as I could without running.
The music and the food and fancy dress
I would remember but for my distress.
While I flirted and I curtseyed and I danced
You watched along the walls as if entranced,
And I blushed to think that you were watching me
Doing things I knew I shouldn't be.
But I chose to enjoy all the host could offer
I chose the road that was straighter and was softer.
Then suddenly, you caught me unawares,
I let my guard down for a moment, you were there.
When you asked me for that dance could I refuse?
I could not think of one more good excuse.
So, frightened as I was I took your hands,
And let you lead me in the motions of the dance.
I trembled as all eyes across the room
Saw I was dancing with someone like you.
But I took your nail-scarred hands and held them tight
And then I finally looked up in your eyes.
When I saw them everything became so clear to me:
Dancing in your arms is where I'm meant to be.
The distraction and the noise faded away
And I saw that only You and I remained.
You whispered you forgave me and you loved me still.
My joy emerged through all the tears of pain that fell.
Here we were and here's where I belonged,
It was you I should have danced with all along.
For as often as I have to be pursued,
I still love You and I want to dance with You.

Hey there! Sorry-- haven't logged in to dA in a month almost! Well, I wrote it about 12 years ago so it's hard to remember. I guess for me it was about remembering that my relationship with God is like a dance. I was a teenager then. I may have been thinking of a father-daughter dance the school I went to had. But it seemed fitting to me to think of my growing relationship with God as something which I was aware of privately while still living my faith out publicly (like on a dance floor) where others could see if I was living out what I believed or not. And would I be ashamed of my faith? Or own it? That's what I was working through when I wrote it I think.

Wow... this was stunning! When I understood Who you were talking about I just melted in my chair. The way you described Him watching you as if entranced... If we all could only begin to comprehend how in love with us Jesus is, man, we wouldn't be able to stand up! I wish I could understand it.
I love the dancing metaphor, and how you described yourself and the people around. I really felt like I was there in the scene. C:

I honestly don't really remember the writing process, so all the descriptions, all the rhythm, it just comes to me when God wants me to write something. And I'm glad he taught me to share it so it can bless you.

I have to be honest, I have had this in my box for ages, stairing at me. I have feared to read it because I knew what God would say in it.

It's called "The Dance" in which God was teaching me the importince of dancing in my life (I was learning swing dance at the time too, which God used to teach me).

Oh Bru...this is so pretty and so true. What a nice allegory for life. I especially liked the part where everyone in the room gawks to see who you're dancing with--it seems like that's exactly the way it is these days. Everyone acts all shocked when they see someone acting on their faith and sometimes it really feels like you're being singled out in the way that you expressed it (i.e. everyone staring at you while you dance). Lovely poem, you're very good at expressing yourself.

People have told me it reminds them of how God loves us, others how we get so distracted in life, and like you said, how people are shocked when we live out our faith. But I wonder why you would want to keep it to yourself. "Freely you have recieved, so freely give", doesn't the bible say that? I mean, this could be of such evangelising worth if used on leaflets etc.

I agree. And that is my attitude most of the time, it's just that sometimes I feel it's too personal. But I've asked God to help me see opportunities where He can use my poems.

I was going to do all that copyright laws and stuff. I used to use ~Liquid-KaKa 's lineart for like 'coloring pages' and she was more than happy to let me use them. I swear I wrote a 100 word paragraph on copyright laws

It's such a wonderful, inspiring poem, LaBru. It reminds me of alot of things, growing up mostly, that I know I felt, if not everyone else. It's Him we were to be "dancing" with all along. Awesome.

that is so beautiful! i can't think of anyother words to discribe it. i love to think of Jesus as a guy who pursues me. A friend of mine was saying the other day that she was being prayed for the gift of joy by some people. She loves to dance and has had many visions of her dancing with Jesus, and him being the perfect partner. While she was being prayed for she was having a vision of Jesus dancing with her, but this time he was doing really daggy dancing which she finds hilarious. He gave her the gift of joy!
