Description Working on shaping the scales into something recognizable as such. I am in love with the dips in the scales :3

Thank you!

It's a 1:1 mix of 1 lb super sculpey and 1lb super sculpey firm, with one 2oz brick of black sculpey 3. This gets a fantastic mid gray tone that, in my honest opinion, takes pictures and paint (light or dark!) very well. I work with tools because this is a tough mixture, yet it takes details very well. Be warned though, mixing one batch is very labor intensive.

awesome, thanks, i'm just getting into this myself, doing maquettes for my course and have been asking a lot of people what clay they use, super sculpey seems the most popular

I've heard a lot of artists who don't like to paint their clay go with Fimo or Primo because it has better constancy and is more resilient than strait Sculpey 3. OOAK comes with it's own breed of delicacy, seeing how it's very fragile.

Down the road, casting is the way to go if you want to reproduce the most resilient creatures.

There are a lot of free tips already written by fantastic members of DA. They go in depth far better than I would.

I've developed a bit of a trick. I section of the scales for both sides of the face together, that way they're approx in the correct spot. Then I detail them.
