This is a second version of my Aquamarine illustration, and I attempted for a more realistic approach.
This picture was created for a spontaneously random fantasy story about a mermaid who is fished out of sea and is threatened to be cooked for dinner, because of rumors that mermaid meat had youth-regaining properties. She eventually escapes, though, when she was cornered, she resorted to bribing her captor with a wish, and leaps back to sea in freedom.
It was my first time to paint a detailed underwater scene, and the results are pretty satisfactory to me, thanks to references from Google Images!

There was a Japanese anime comic some years ago that had the story line that mermaid flesh bestowed long life if it was eaten unknowingly. The curse was that if the person eating the meat knew it was mermaid flesh they would change into a horrible demon. The only way to reverse the effects of the long life was to drown at sea and be reincarnated as a mermaid.
